Kraljevica
has a long tradition in to-urism. On the peninsula Ostro, the centre of tourism
in Kraljevica, the first public beach was built back in 1896. Hotels, villas,
bungalows, camping sites, clear sea and maintained beaches, natural beauty of
the surroundings, rich cu-l-tural heritage (chur-ches, two castles), cultural,
sports and entertainment opportunities and guarantee a pleasant stay. Hotel
Uvala Scott, situated in the romantic cove Dubno, Hotel Almis, a sanatorium for
treatment of allergic diseases, and the tourist resort Ostro are particularly
attractive. Regattas and diving courses represent another attraction. Of
cultural events, one should point out the Summer in Frankopan, in the Nova
Kraljevica Castle, the folklore groups, and the famous Shrovetide season,
cherishing the tradition of masked balls (January/February).
KRALJEVICA,
a town and a port in the Vino-dol Channel, at the entrance in to the Gulf of
Bakar. Situated in the centre of a cove which spreads from Cape Ostro and
Fortica to the south-east in a total length of 600 m; the town has developed at
the sea coast and on the slope below the main road. The climate is favourable (a
sanatorium), the mean temperature in January attains 6 °C and in July 22 °C. Kraljevica is a more
recent town in the
region of Primorje; founded probably in the 15th century. From
the end of the 18th century, when a connection to King Charles Road
(Karlovac - Bakar - Rijeka) was laid up to the second half
of the 19th century it was an important port and marine
centre; already towards the end of the 17th century it had a
shipyard, and in the second half of the 19th century it became
the cradle of shipbuilding industry on the Adriatic.
Parallelly it developed into a seaside resort, with villas and hotels. It is located on
the main road (M2, E65) Rijeka - Zadar.
